How to get out of a winter slump.

We’ve all woken up on a cold winter day and said “do I really have to get out of bed?”. The answer to that desperate question is, without a doubt, YES! And we all know it too; we have goals to achieve and dreams to reach for.

But sometimes, it’s just so difficult. Because even after we get out of bed, it’s hard to do work, look presentable, and simply perform our much needed self care routines.

Hence, we categorize winter as a time full of bedrot - a slump. But it doesn’t have to be! Let’s go through what we can do to make sure our winter, from now until spring, can be as enjoyable and productive as possible. ⭐️

Changing our mindset

It sounds so simple, but the first step to getting out of a slump is to stop lying to yourself. To stop telling yourself that a winter slump is normal.

The truth is, a slump/unproductivity can be remedied with just the recognition that, your are in fact, in a slump, and that it isn’t normal or excusable. Now, this sounds harsh: so just remember to give yourself grace. It’s okay to find yourself in a slump every once in a while, especially when it’s seasonal depression season.

But, now you’ve recognized it! This is the first step to getting back on track - be proud that you were able to overcome your thoughts and find the right reset mindset! Not everyone can do that.

So… We’ve changed our mindset by simply recognizing the bedrot needs to stop. What can we do next?

An easy way to turn our mindset around is to start writing to-do lists. It’s going to sound crazy, but even a to-do list in your mind doesn’t have the same effect as actually writing down exactly what needs to get done each day! Pro tip: Leave it by your phone at night, so you see it in the morning!

Starting to GLOW

Truly, the best way to remedy a slump is to plan. Remind yourself of these key things:

  1. What goals am I working towards, and what are the actionable steps I’m taking to achieve them?

  2. Why do I practice self-care? What will happen if I don’t?

  3. Where do I see myself in 20 years? Am I on track right now to get there?

  4. Is there anything that I want to buy right now? What can I do to reward myself with it?

  5. How would my favorite it-girl act right now?

The Glow 2025 Life Planner helps you plan around all of these aspects. Visualize your dreams with the manifestation page, and reward yourself for monthly goals accomplished on the motivation page!

Now that your life is planned, let’s add some cherries on top - a few tips for sustaining your glow and making sure the slump doesn’t happen again.

Goodbye, future slumps!

Say goodbye to any future slumps with these tips and tricks:

  1. Set up a morning and nighttime routine, and if it doesn’t stick the first day, try it again the next. We often give up after a routine doesn’t settle in the first time we try it. This is NORMAL, but can also be remedied. It’s exactly what a slump preys on - the inability to adapt to your mind’s natural resistance to changes (even ones for the better). Simply put, if a new routine doesn’t go your way at first - just. keep. trying!!

  2. This routine should be actionable and specific - but not too crazy that you can’t achieve it (like waking up at 4am) or easy, (like waking up at 10am). Choose a goal that is in your challenge zone. For example, here’s a good morning routine to follow after a slump:

    • Wake up (6:30am)

    • Drink a glass of water

    • Make bed, clean room, open window (6:40)

    • 15 minute yoga and pilates

    • Skincare + Makeup (7:00)

    • Get some work done in bed (7:15)

    • Get dressed! (8:00)

Perfect! Now your routine is tracked on the Glow 2025 Life Planner, and your alarm is set to follow this schedule ( or is it - make sure it is!!)

Balance is a gift.

The truth is, you either got into a slump because bad habits led to it - or because too many good habits (working too hard) led to it. In either respect, an imbalance in how hard we’re working is never a good thing. A lot of people will tell you that you’re either working too hard, or not working hard enough.

That’s why it’s important to look past their comments and look inwards. Have confidence that you are, at this point, doing the right things for your mental and physical health. Confidence in the simple balance you’ve created taking care of yourself!

If you didn’t already guess where this segment was going - here it is: the balance you find between work and fun - and similarly physical and mental - is what will ultimately decide whether you’re in a slump or not. Choose to find the balance, and you’ll be well on your way to glow and growth!

What now?

  1. Listen to yourself. Trust that manifestations will bring you to wherever it is you are meant to be.

  2. Create a safe space - maybe it’s your room or a third place you’re drawn to.

  3. Make things as simple as possible. Ex: Pick your clothes for tomorrow the night before

  4. Spend time outside - the sun is a healer!
